Worked in a group with designers and developers to create a prototype of an iPad Application for third grade children. This was our senior design project at Rochester Institute of Technology. One of the reasons why this project is unique because it was the first time I've conducted in-field user study. This helped guide our team towards the right direction since we were not used to designing apps for children. So in order to create user empathy, and to better understand our how children use technology, we decided to take a trip to the local elementary school. We visited several classrooms (ranging from 2nd to 4th grade students), and spent some time with the kids as well as their teacher. We asked questions, and basically observed how they interact with classroom technology, and their assignments. One of the key takeaways was that because many of the children already play a lot of video games, they recognize the behavior of standard app interactions.
